It’s #TimeToEndBreastCancer

In 1992, Evelyn H. Lauder co-created the iconic Pink Ribbon, which has become the universal symbol for breast health, and launched The Estee Lauder Companies' Breast Cancer Campaign (The Campaign).

She inspired a global movement around its mission:

to help create a breast cancer-free world for all

The Campaign helps fund lifesaving research, education and medical services that work to positively impact the global breast cancer community.

Self-examination
Breast cancer cannot usually be prevented, but you can take these important steps* to help detect it earlier before it spreads and increase the chance of a full recovery.

Regardless of age, women should pay attention to and be familiar with their breast health. HKBCF recommends the following simple self-examination methods for your check-up, to help detect any abnormality earlier before it spreads, and to increase the chance of recovery.

Perform breast self-examination monthly, either on the same date of every month or in the week your period ends when the breasts are less swollen.

Doing breast self-examination is simple; look and feel, and look for change in your breasts.

Look
Any lump, thickening, dimpling or abnormal contour
Any pitting, unusual skin rash, non-healing wounds, bleeding or ulceration on the skin
Any nipple retraction or asymmetry
Any nipple skin change, discharge or bleeding from the nipple
Any lump pr enlarged lymph node in the underarm
Feel
Lie down: place a rolled towel or pillow under your shoulder, use body oil on breast
During shower: Apple soap on skin to make the examination easier
Right hand at ear level, use the pads of the three middle fingers of the left hand to press and make small circles or vertical strips around the right breast to feel for lumps or thickening.
Gently press the right nipple with two fingers of the left hand to look for any discharge.
Feel for change in your breasts, above and below your collarbone and armpit area.
Repeat the examination on your left breast with your right hand.
Tips: Most often, many of the changes may not be linked to breast cancer. The above-mentioned steps just provide a basic checking only. If any abnormalities are found, please consult a doctor for professional advice immediately.

ELC'S AUTHENTIC LEGACY IN THE BREAST CANCER SPACE

#TimeToEndBreastCancer

At a time when breast cancer wasn't spoken about openly, Evelyn H. Lauder saw an opportunity to bring awareness to breast cancer and address stigmas in women's health. People around the world were dying from breast cancer and knowledge was limited—there was no Pink Ribbon, research was underfunded, and there was not an understanding ofthe complexities behind this disease.

That's why in 1992, she co-created the Pink Ribbon and founded The Estée Lauder Companies' Breast Cancer Campaign, inspiring a global movement around The Campaign's mission to help create a breast cancer-free world for all.
